19.11.10-First Full Day Home from Hospital

Well decided that I was going to sleep downstairs in the leather recliner chair as it is electric and I should be able to get a fairly good night’s sleep.  Not only that, Paul and I have always cuddled going to sleep and I have always layed on my side to go to sleep, especially my left side and that is where most of the surgery has been performed.

I have five keyholes from surgery and one drain hole.  At the moment they are stitched inside, so there are no eternal stitches showing and they keyholes have been covered with protective glue.  The drain was not removed until the yesterday and they made the initial hole too big so it had to have two stitches to hold the drain and close the excess space around it,  That was particularly uncomfortable coming out but not painful.  The sister on in HDU has dressed it with butterfly stitches but because of where it is, the stitches haven’t stayed suck and I find them attached to my left breast when having a wash.  Luckily the HDU gave me some extra dressings to come home with and I use them to cover the area, and I also put another on my top keyhole as it is right on my bra line and I don’t want it to become infected or irritated.

So at the moment I am allowed clear fluids until tomorrow and then I am allowed thick liquids.  I am amazed that I am not hungry, and that although I am tender inside that there is no pain.  My bladder hasn’t quite gone back to normal after being catheterised for 4 days but it was heaven not having to worry about the loo.  I can remember from having my c sections that bowel movements take some time to come and restore to normal and as I am not eating at the moment it might take a little longer than before.  I have also noticed that I don’t seem to be able to breathe very deeply without it being of great discomfort but as I understand it this will improve over time.
